“To the point you didn’t feel you could sleep?” Ewain’s mouth formed a grim line. The furrow returned.

The Wycan’s nod was slow. “I didn’t even take the time to eat. I just pushed through, doing what should have taken at least another week, in two days.” Marissa rubbed her temple again. She ate a few more bites of cake, but then set the plate down, the remainder forgotten.

Ewain snagged the plate and polished off the confection. “It was the same for me.”

Marissa sank onto the sofa. “Do you think there are others who are feeling like this?”

Stacking the empty plates, Keely carried them to the dishwasher. None of this sounded like her experience at all. I wasn’t called. Am I not good enough?
